30th LaMer Special Seminar “How to find the organic pollutants of tomorrow?” is going to be held on Aug 21st, 2019.

Date: August 21st, 2019
Time: 14:30 – 15:30
Venue: Meeting room #674, Science Research  Bldg 1

■Lecturer:Prof. Peter Haglund
Department of Chemistry, Umeå University, Sweden

■Abstract: The first persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were discovered around
five decades ago, partially because of the invention of the halogen sensitive
and selective ECD detector. Over the following decades, mass spectrometry
became more and more affordable and widely available, facilitating the
discovery and identification of new POPs. Recently, time-of-flight
high-resolution MS (HRTOF-MS) systems has become available. Exceptionally
sensitivity can be achieved with instrumental limits-of-detections as low
as 10 fg on-column. The utility of the system extends beyond trace-analysis
of target compounds. The entire full-spectrum data is written to disc and
is available for various post-acquisition tasks, such as suspect and
non-target screening. Identification workflows and results from various
environmentally relevant screening projects will be presented and discussed.
